Kimia Alizadeh: Iran's only female Olympic medalist leaves Islamic republic

Iran's only female Olympic medalist Kimia Alizadeh has announced that she has left Iran because she does not want to be part of hypocrisy, lies, injustice and flattery.

BBC reports that the 21-year-old medalist, who described herself as one of the millions of oppressed women, made the disclosure on social media.

Legit.ng gathers that Alizadeh made Iran proud in 2016 when she won a bronze medal in taekwondo at the Rio Olympics.

Alizadeh said authorities in Iran had used her success as a propaganda tool, adding that officials were humiliating her with comments such as: "It is not virtuous for a woman to stretch her legs."

She said: "I am one of the millions of oppressed women in Iran whom they've been playing for years.

"I wore whatever they told me and repeated whatever they ordered. Every sentence they ordered I repeated. None of us matter for them, we are just tools."
