Meanwhile, Koeman would not be able to take the job due to the clause in his contract with Holland which will not allow him to take up the job until after Euro 2020 championship.

With the above mention condition, Barcelona have not made Pochettino their prime target for the top job which will be vacant in July.

Pochettino, who played for Espanyol, Barca's local rivals, said two years ago: "I'm an Espanyol supporter. I don't need to speak too much.

"In football, it's hard to keep loyal with your heart and emotion but I believe that before being a manager or a player, you should be loyal.

Valverde's deal expires at the end of the season but he could be let go before that if results do not improve.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Xavi Hernandez has been offered a lucrative deal to become new Barcelona manager as pressure continues to mount on current club's boss Ernesto Valverde.

The former Spanish international is presently the manager of Qatari club Al-Sadd, but an agreement with both sides may see him depart Doha for Camp Nou.

Barcelona have suffered a couple of defeats, leaving Valverde's position threatened, with recent Super Cup fall to Atletico Madrid being the last straw that broke the camel's back.
