VAR: Controversy as linesman rules Monaco's equalizer against PSG offside, technology gives goal

VAR played a controversial role in PSG's 3-3 draw with Monaco in a Ligue 1 match played at the Parc des Princes.

Islam Slimani's equalizer for Monaco was clearly offside as the linesman flagged the referee but after taking a look at the VAR, the goal was given by referee Antony Gautier.

The Algerian striker was miles offside before putting the ball past Keylor Navas but it was claimed Marquinhos touched the ball before it dropped to Slimani.

The Parisians had gone ahead through Neymar in third minute but Gelson Martins leveled matters four minutes later.

French striker Wissam Ben Yedder put Monaco in front for the first time in the match in the 13th minute but Fode Toure's own goal brought PSG back into the match at 2-2.

Three minutes before half-time, Neymar restored the lead for PSG as the entertaining encounter produced five goals in the first half.

Monaco searched for the equalizer before Slimani's 70th-minute goal was given as both team shared the spoils under controversial circumstances.

PSG maintain a five-point lead at the top of Ligue 1 while Monaco rose to eighth after a shaky start of the 2019-20 season.
