Harry, Meghan's royal quit: Trump weighs in, praises Queen Elizabeth

- The move by Britain’s Prince Harry and Meghan to step back from royal duties has been described as “sad" by President Donald Trump

- Trump said he does not think this should be happening to the queen

- The US president hailed the Queen who he described as a great woman

President Donald Trump, the United States president on Friday, January 10, lent his voice to the decision by Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle to step back from royal duties.

Speaking with Fox News' Laura Ingraham, Trump described the development as sad.

"I don’t want to get into the whole thing. I just have such respect for the Queen I don’t think this should be happening to her,” Trump added in the interview.

The president, however, had words of praises for Queen Elizabeth II, who according to report, is heavily disappointed by the move. He said she is a great woman who has never made a mistake.

"She's a great woman. She's never made a mistake, if you look. She's had like a flawless time," Trump said.

It came as a surprise on Tuesday, January 8, when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they would like to quit their role as senior royal members and want to become financially independent.

The news has been trailed by controversy as some condemned the decision. One of such people was a popular British writer and broadcaster, Piers Morgan. He said if he were the Queen, he would sack them off their post and plunge them into civilian life for saying they want to quit royal life.

Report also has it that Harry's father, Prince Charles, is reportedly threatening to cut off his royal funding if they go ahead with the plan to quit.

If the threat to cut off the funding happens, Harry would stop getting his £2.3 million (N1,089,299,377.50) royal grant from the Duchy of Cornwall Estate.
