Nigerian Air Force attacks terrorists, bombs portions of ISWAP headquarters

- The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) attacks tactical headquarters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno state

- Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, the spokesperson for NAF, says the airstrike also neutralised some of the insurgents in the attack, Channels TV reports

Daramola notes that the operation was executed in 2 waves of attacks carried out following successive days of intelligence gathering

The Nigerian Air Force has destroyed portions of an Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) tactical headquarters at Kollaram on the fringes of the Lake Chad in Borno state.

Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, the spokesperson for NAF, disclosed that the airstrike also neutralised some of the insurgents in the attack, Channels TV reports.

Daramola disclosed that the airstrikes were conducted by the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation Lafiya Dole as part of the ongoing Operation Rattlesnake 2.

He said the operation was executed in 2 waves of attacks carried out on the 4 and 5 of January 2020, following successive days of intelligence gathering that led to the identification of compounds within the settlement where the terrorists’ leaders were housed.

The NAF spokesperson said a fighter aircraft dispatched attacked hideouts in different parts of the settlement, destroying the structures and killing several terrorists, including a few that were spotted near a cluster of buildings at the northern edge of the location.

Meanwhile, three soldiers and eight civilians have been reportedly killed by some members of the Boko Haram terrorist group in Monguno area of Borno state.

Daily Trust reports that the terrorists on Tuesday, January 7, rammed into the convoy of troops of the Nigerian Military with cars filled with explosives.

A source within the Military who confirmed the incident which took place a few days after the withdrawal of Chadian troops who were helping their Nigerian counterparts in fighting the ISWAP said the troops engaged the insurgents in gunfire at Monguno Roundabout.
