Nigeria is a very spiritual country and it is believed that words have power. Despite that, many parents are known to speak harshly or speak down on their kids, not minding how it will affect them in future.
Nollywood actress, Georgina Onuoha, recently took to her Instagram page to share throwback photos from when she bagged her PhD.
According to the film star, she bagged the PhD even when she had been told in the past that she will never amount to anything. The actress then shared a conversation she had with her daughter as she explained the importance of speaking positively to one’s child or children.
Read her caption below:
“Two years ago I bagged this one. My daughter asked me this evening, “mom why do I keep seeing PhD candidate on all your paperwork and documents?
Me: I’m just pulling the bull by the horn.
Why? Do you want to become a doctor?
Me: Anything is possible child especially when you are constantly being told “you will never amount to anything without me”
Child: I see. I want to become a brain surgeon
Me: It’s in your DNA. Reach for it child because girls with dreams become women with visions.
According to her, having such affirmative conversations with one's children is crucial and important.
She added that the journey of one thousand kilometres begins with a step, advising that people should take it one by one at their own pace.
