Following a viral video that showed a person in police uniform with a Point of Sale (POS) machine and demanded an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) debit card from a member of the public, the Nigerian Police Force said it has commenced an investigation to ascertain the authenticity of the clip.
Legit.ng reports that the police disclosed this in a statement released on Friday, January 10, on its official Twitter handle, @PoliceNG.
In the statement, it was stated that the investigations are ongoing to unravel the location of incident and identity of persons captured in the viral video.
The police, however, urged members of the public to send relevant information that could assist police investigators to email@example.com or a direct message to @policeNG.
It added that the inspector general of police condemned all acts of corruption and remains committed to ensuring any officer found guilty face the wrath of the law.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that a viral video showed a policeman demanding a bribe on camera.
It was gathered that the trending video showed the unidentified policeman holding a POS machine in his hands while he held a man hostage.
The officer was heard loudly demanding that the young man should hand over his ATM card to him.
It was learned that the officer, however, did not reveal what he intended to use the ATM card for and the young man was also heard loudly refusing to give him the card.
