The Portuguese scored just 12 goals in the same amount of time last term for the Old Lady, admitting Italian league is the hardest.

But on statistics, the Belgian forward's 14 goals suggested he has a better debut year than Ronaldo, and he is on the way to replicate his 25 league goals during the 2016/17 campaign with Everton.

The feat made Inter boss Conte slam Lukaku's critics who earlier wrote him off and tagged him expensive flop.

“I heard people say Lukaku was a donkey. I heard all sorts not even that long ago. It’s easy to speak highly of Lukaku now, but if we look back to a few weeks ago.

“I always said Romelu was a rough diamond that needed work to smooth him out," Conte said.

Lukaku joined Inter Milan from Manchester United last summer in a deal worth £73million.
