President Buhari reacts to Kaduna gas explosion

- The presidency has lamented the death of some Nigerians in Kaduna

- Buhari also lamented the death of Professor Simon Mallam

- The president prayed for God's comfort to the families and give them the fortitude to bear the loss

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed deep sadness over the gas explosion which led to the death of the Chairman, Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission, Professor Simon Mallam, his son and three others at Sabon Tasha area of Kaduna on Saturday, January 4.

Reacting to the incident, President Buhari said: "I am deeply touched by this unfortunate incident that claimed the lives of Professor Simon Mallam, his son and others.

“The death of the erudite Professor has robbed Nigeria of a great scientist whose services were acutely needed at a time we are increasing emphasis on science and technology for development.

"I extend my heartfelt sympathy to his family and those of other victims of the gas explosion. May God comfort these families and give them the fortitude to bear the loss,” President Buhari added.

Legit.ng had also reported that a gas explosion claimed the lives of many people at Sabon Tasha in Kaduna metropolis on Saturday, December 4.

The incident occurred at a shop located opposite Total filling station at Sabon Tasha.

According to reports, the sound of the explosion caused fear among many residents who initially thought it was a bomb attack by Boko Haram.

Legit.ng also reported the Kaduna state government condoled the families of those who lost their lives following a gas explosion that occurred at about 2 pm on Saturday in Kaduna.

This was contained in a statement issued by Samuel Aruwan, the state commissioner, Internal Security and Home Affairs and made available to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna.

“Our thoughts are with them in this sad moment. The incident occurred in business premises located along Kachia Road, Sabon Tasha, in Chikun local government area.

“The state government also sympathized with the citizens that sustained injuries in the explosion,” it added.
