The Nigerian Presidency has said that many citizens in the country now have jobs readily available for them since the closure of the nation's borders.
Speaking on the availability of jobs, the senior special assistant to the president on Niger Delta Affairs, Ita Enang said many Nigerians who had been out of jobs have now taken to rice production, cassava, millet among many others.
Listing the benefits of the border closure by the federal government on mostly Nigerian youths, Enang while fielding questions from journalists after a strategic meeting in his office in Abuja said the border closure has helped increase Nigeria's revenue generation.
He also called on south east governors to support the closure of borders across the country.
Enang said the president should be highly commended for creating food security and restoring peace, especially in volatile areas.
“Many people who have been out of jobs are now taking to rice, cassava, millet farming etc. So, the closure has positively increased the revenue generation of the country,” Enang said.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Federal Government had said that there are no plans to re-open the closed borders across the country.
President Muhammadu Buhari said his administration has not decided on the time when the ban would be lifted.
The president also said that the government’s directive would save the country billions of naira on import bills.
