General Qasem Soleimani: IGP Adamu places policemen on red alert nationwide

Police commands and formations nationwide have been placed on alert by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu over the recent killing of an Iranian general, Qasem Soleimani by the US.

The spokesperson for the police, Frank Mba, in a statement on Sunday, January 5, said the decision follows intelligence reports that some domestic interests are planning to embark on massive public disturbances and sabotage in response to the killing of the Iranian general.

Mba said the zonal AIGs and command commissioners of police have been directed to ensure maximum surveillance and security of lives and property across the nation.

He said the police boss has ordered all police commanders to ensure strategic deployments of both overt and covert police operatives to ensure adequate security and safety of citizens, foreigners especially diplomats and diplomatic missions domiciled in Nigeria as well as the protection of critical national assets.

The spokesperson said IGP has assured all Nigerians and foreigners resident in the country of adequate security.

He has equally warned all potential troublemakers to steer clear of the streets and territory of Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, has threatened to attack no fewer than 52 Iranian targets to bring down the middle east country if it dares to carry out threats of attacks on America.

President Trump, in series of tweets, said the US will not take any threats from Iran and the world power would hit "very fast and very hard" at the Iranians.
