The Ekiti state Police Command has announced the arrest of three armed suspected herdsmen over highway robbery in the southwest state.
The Nation reports that the herdsmen were arrested on Friday, January 3 at Ise-Ekiti in Ise/Orun local government area of Ekiti for barricading the highway and robbing passers-by of their belongings.
They were said to have mounted the illegal roadblock along Usho Road, where they used guns and other dangerous weapons to dispossess road users of the properties.
The highway robbers got into trouble when some road users saw them operating on the road and alerted the police who rushed to the scene to arrest them.
The arrest of the herdsmen was confirmed by Ekiti’ police commissioner, Asuquo Amba, who said: "Some men suspected to be herdsmen mounted a roadblock. We are still into it to find out why they behaved that way. We will brief the press on further development."
He, however, revealed the names of those arrested to be Usman Ibrahim, Ali Salisu and Sidikia Manbagri.
The report quoted a source in the know as saying: "Information reached the police at about 10.15 am that five herdsmen mounted roadblock along Usho Road in Ise Ekiti terrorizing the road users with dangerous weapons like daggers and cutlasses.

"A police patrol team swung into action and arrested two of them, Usman Ibrahim and Ali Salisu on the spot while the remaining three fled into the bush.
"Upon combing the bush for the fleeing suspects, another suspect, named Sidikia Manbagri, was arrested. Our men are still in the bush to find the remaining two suspects."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng also reported that two armed herdsmen identified as Usman Saleh and Ibrahim Alhaji were arrested by the police in Benue state.
The herdsmen were arrested during a stop and search operation while they were attempting to escape after operatives discovered rounds of live ammunition AK rifles in their possession.
The police paraded the suspects along with 25 who were arrested others arrested in connection with kidnapping and robbery by men of the Operation Zenda.
