Real Madrid on Saturday evening, January 4, defeated hosts Getafe 3-0 in a Spanish La Liga encounter for them to move to the top of the standings.

But Los Blancos' stay at the top of the La Liga standings could be temporary as they would have to wait for the result of Barcelona game who face Espanyol later on Saturday evening.

Real Madrid started this encounter impressively, and Los Blancos would have even scored the first goal in the 7th minute through Bale who received a great pass from Casemiro.

Getafe also had their chance to score in the 12th minute when Damien Suarez located Angel Rodriguez with a long pass, but he was unable to beat goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Zinedine Zidane's men however scored their first goal in the 34th minute, but it was an own goal by goalkeeper David Soria who failed to clear well in his box.

Los Blancos scored their second goal in the 53rd minute through Raphael Varane who rose up to power home a header from Toni Kroos' free-kick.

The hosts tried all they could to at least score a goal against Real Madrid, but goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois denied them many times as the match ended 3-0 with Luka Modric scoring the third.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Karim Benzema signed a new one year contract deal at the Bernabeu which will make him remain at the club until the end of 2021/22 League season.

Karim Benzema has been playing for Real Madrid for the past 10 years and has featured in close to 500 games scoring 238 goals for Los Blancos.
