Ile Arugbo: Gbemi Saraki attacks Kwara governor over demolition of father's political home

- Gbemisola Saraki has condemned the demolition of his father's political home, Ile Arugbo, by the Kwara state government

- Saraki said she felt disrespected that Governor AbdulRazaq did not deem it fit to consult with her before taking the action, knowing that she’s a member of APC that brought him into power

- The transportation minister called Kwara APC to reject vindictive politics, saying the Otoge movement was about removing the failed PDP government, not about the Saraki family

The demolition of 'Ile Arugbo', the legacy building of the Saraki political dynasty in Ilorin, has been strongly condemned by Gbemisola Saraki, the minister of state for transportation.

Gbemisola who is also a strong member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) rose above political affiliation to express her displeasure over the demolition which was ordered by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, The Cable reports.

The transportation minister said in a statement released on Friday, January 3, that she felt disrespected that the governor did not deem it fit to consult with her before taking the action, knowing that she’s a member of APC that brought him into power.

Ile Arugbo is regarded as the political home of Olusola Saraki, Gbemisola’s and Bukola Saraki's father.

Gbemisola, further condemning the demolition, called on the people of the state to stand up against vindictive politics, driven by envy, motivated by jealousy and practised without integrity.

She said the mission of the Otoge movement which brought the APC to power in 2019 was not about the destruction of the Saraki's political dynasty but the removal of the failed PDP government in the state.

The minister warned the Kwara APC not to allow some elements to turn the party's focus from governance to pursuing a personal vendetta.

She added that the focus of the ruling APC is good governance, security, improved welfare and development of the people as exemplified by President Muhammadu Buhari, not playing vindictive politics.

The minister said she considered Governor AbdulRazaq as an elder brother and she always accords him the respect which the governor has failed to accord her.

Similarly, former Senate president, Bukola Saraki, who is Gbemisola's brother, has also reacted to the demolition.

Saraki, in a series of tweets on Thursday, January 2, said justice will prevail in a not too distant future over the demolition of the property.

He also commended the people, both young and old, who showed support to his late father and the family over the development.

He said the action of the people showed that the building was more than a physical structure to them just as he thanked them for reciprocating the love and affection his father and family have for them.
