A Boko Haram logistics facility at Gujeri in the Sambisa Forest area of Borno has been destroyed by combat helicopters of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).
The spokesperson for the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, confirmed the attack on the Boko Haram location in a statement on Friday, January 3, in Abuja.
In a statement obtained by Legit.ng, he disclosed that the attack was carried out through the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation Lafiya Dole on December 31, 2019.
Daramola explained that the airstrikes were executed at night-time after series of intelligence missions which identified some makeshift structures under some trees in the settlement that were being used by the terrorists to store fuel and other items for the maintenance of their vehicles.
He said combat helicopters were then dispatched to attack the location resulting in the destruction of the storage facilities as well as other structures in the camp.
Meanwhile, troops of the Nigerian military repelled an attack by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in Michika local government area of Adamawa state on Thursday, January 2.
Channels TV reports that the insurgents had stormed the outskirts of the city at about 7:00 pm, resulting in a stampede and residents scampering for safety.
The terrorists attempted to enter Michika causing residents to flee towards Uba town while others took refuge in nearby mountains.
According to a community leader, Stephen Maduwa, military fighter jets were promptly drafted to the area and aircraft gunshots were heard by residents as the attackers were forced to retreat through Lassa, a community near the Sambisa Forest.
He said security personnel including the local vigilantes were quickly mobilised and repelled the attack and secure the communities.
