A former Speaker of Imo state House of Assembly, Godfrey Dikeocha, has moved over to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Dikeocha, a former stalwart of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), formally announced his defection at his home in Ndigbo Uvuru, Aboh Mbaise local government area of Imo state, when leaders of APC visited him.
He said Buhari’s anti-corruption principles had made an impact in the country and informed his decision to join the APC.
“I believe in the anti-corruption principles of Mr President, and he is fighting it no matter the pitfalls. Despite the misgiving in the southeast, Mr President has started doing visible projects for the region.
“Even in PDP days, we orchestrated the 2nd Niger Bridge that never took off, but today something is going on in the place, including renovation work going on in Akanu Ibiam International Airport.
“Southeasterners of PDP extraction were ministers and they did nothing to upgrade the airport, but the president is doing wonderful work there despite not getting votes from the region,” The Nation quoted Dikeocha as saying.
The party chief promised to help rebuild APC in the state, saying the time had come for Ndigbo to join the government at the centre.
He also urged APC chieftains, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Uche Nwosu, and Hope Uzodinma to form a common front for the task ahead.
Meanwhile, Governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo has renamed the popular Jacob Zuma road in Owerri, the state capital to Mbazuluike Amaechi road, in commemoration of Amaechi’s 90th birthday.
Amaechi was 1st Republic aviation minister and is the only surviving member of the Zikist Movement, founded by Nigeria's 1st president, Nnamdi Azikiwe.
The road was named after the former South African president by the immediate past governor of the state, Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
