Man City vs Everton saw the English champion record a vital 2-1 win over the Toffee as they opened the New Year on victory note at Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.

Pep Guardiola’s side went into the game head high and proved a point all thanks to Gabriel Jesus who grabbed a brace in the process.

Everton initially put in a strong show till the end of first half but the Brazilian star broke the deadlock and gave City an early lead through a beautifully converted strike in the 51st minute courtesy of Ilkay Gundogan’s wonderful assist.

Riyad Mahrez’s pass was all needed as the Algerian international gave a riot run into Toffee’s defence and passed to the Brazilian who shot in a perfect finish.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men looked more dangerous and wanted to prove Gabriel’s goal were a fluke but City’s defence was too big to break, forcing Tom Davies and Dominic Calvert-Lewin to the hook with yellow cards.

Resilient Everton looked like a side to seal an epic comeback towards the end of the game with Richarlison breaking City’s defence in the 71st minute.

Pep made some changes as part of game plans which saw Mahrez subbed for recuperating Raheem Sterling.

The game ended with Man City sealing another win as they maintain their third position on the Premier League log behind Leicester City and league leaders Liverpool.
