Governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo has renamed the popular Jacob Zuma road in Owerri, the state capital.

The road was named after the former South African president by the immediate past governor of the state, Owelle Rochas Okorocha.

Okorocha had also honoured Zuma with a giant statue at the heart of Owerri, alongside other African leaders.

The road is now to be known as Mbazuluike Amaechi road, in commemoration of Amaechi’s 90th birthday.

Amaechi was 1st Republic aviation minister and is the only surviving member of the Zikist Movement, founded by Nigeria's 1st president, Nnamdi Azikiwe.

Okorocha recently claimed that Ihedioha is always against him because the governor came into power with a stolen mandate.

“Since then, he has never slept with his two eyes closed. He has remained haunted by that electoral mishap,” the former governor said in a recent statement.

Okorocha's statement was made days after the Appeal Court sitting in Abuja affirmed Ihedioha’s victory as the duly elected governor of Imo state.

The court delivered the judgment on Tuesday, November 19 following an appeal filed by the Action Alliance All Progressive Grand Alliance and the All Progressive Congress challenging the election of Ihedioha.

The court dismissed the cases and affirmed Ihedioha's election as Imo state governor.
