- The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) wants the immediate return of a revoked land belonging to late Olusola Saraki
- Yerima Shettima, president of the AYCF, accused the Kwara government of breeding 'bad blood' in the north
- Shettima asked the family of the late Saraki to get back their land through every possible legal means
The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has reacted to the revocation of a property belonging to late Olusola, father of immediate past Senate president Bukola Saraki by the governor of Kwara state, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The AYCF demanded that the piece of land be immediately returned to the family of Saraki because the action has a negative consequence on the brotherhood that exists in the north.
While describing the revocation of the land by the governor as a fatal mistake, president of the AYCF, Yerima Shettima, accused Governor AbdulRazaq of trying to abuse his powers and insult the people of Kwara.
In a statement made available to Legit.ng, the group argued that the landed property was used by the late Saraki to care for the needy, the aged and abandoned residents of the state and that this legacy was sustained by his children.
"We take exception to the deployment of the powers of the state in a desperate move that smacks of political vendetta and failed attempt to rewrite history," the group said.
It alleged that the state government 'hijacked' the property, adding: "We therefore have reason to suspect that it was a mission in disguise to wipe out the empowerment legacies of the late Olusola Saraki.
"This is an abuse of office, a disservice to the people of Kwara and a ridiculing of the unity and brotherhood among northerners."
While asking Nigerians to rise up against the action of the governor, the group also urged the family to take every legal means possible to recover the land from the government.
"If the incumbent governor thinks he could destroy late Olusola Saraki's legacies as a political gimmick of winning public sympathy, he is making a fatal mistake," the AYCF declared.
Legit.ng had reported that Bukola Saraki responded to how the Kwara state government revoked Ile-Arugbo, his father’s, Olusola Saraki’s property, for years.
Saraki said Abdulrazaq had really crossed the line with his recent effort to obliterate his late father’s legacies in the state.
