The Ebonyi state governor, David Umahi, has assured residents of the state that an older person will not succeed him as governor of the state.
Umahi, while receiving members of the State's Executive Council on Sunday, December 29, said he will not support anyone above his age limit to be elected as governor of Ebonyi state in 2023.
Vanguard reports that the council members led by the deputy governor, Kelechi Igwe, met at the governor's country home in Uburu, Ohaozara local government area during the yuletide.
Appreciating the members of the council, Umahi called for unity and teamwork for the good of the people of the state.
“I will not support anyone that is older than me for governor come 2023. We need someone that is energetic and ready to lead with every commitment," Governor Umahi said.
Stating that he will not be engaged in politics in 2023, the governor said he will only discuss politics a year to the end of his tenure in the state.
Umahi said: "We are more concerned with developing the state and cannot be distracted by desperate people who are hungry for power and not for the betterment of the people."

Also speaking, the deputy governor of the state who aligned himself with Umahi's declarations said, urged all governors to come for a tutorial on good governance under the Ebonyi State Governor.
He also prayed that Umahi does not relent on his avowed commitment in ensuring that Ebonyi sustains its lead among the top developing states in the country.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Umahi had said that he will not be involved in choosing his successor in the state.
The governor said no one, both within and outside the state, can influence the processes that will lead to the election of the next governor of Ebonyi.
According to him, the emergence of the next governor of Ebonyi state will be solely dependent on God.
