Cristiano Ronaldo crowned 2019 Globe Soccer Awards player of the year in Dubai

Cristiano Ronaldo Juventus superstar has been named the best player of the year at the 2019 Globe Soccer Awards staged in Dubai this month.

Despite missing out of all three major individual prizes this year, the 34-year-old was recognised for his contribution towards Juve's success so far since his arrival.

According to Football Italia, the Portuguese has scored 40 goals in all competitions - with the forward raising the bars once again by jumping eight-feet high to score his last for the year.

His contributions towards Portugal's triumph in the UEFA Europa Nations League maiden edition was also taken into consideration while deciding to give him the award.

Ronaldo lost both The Best FIFA Men’s Player and Ballon d’Or gongs to his arch-rival, Lionel Messi, while Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk emerged Europe's best player for the season.

He was however named Serie A’s Most Valuable Player for 2018-19 season having helped the Old Lady win domestic brace in his first year at the Turin based club.

At the same gala, Ronaldo's teammate Miralem Pjanic scooped up the Player Career award, while his agent Jorge Mendes won Best Agent.

Atletico Madrid’s Andrea Berta was named Best Sporting Director.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted at a possible retirement from football with the Juventus star plotting next career move on entrepreneurship and acting.

The Portuguese star is considered as one of the biggest names to ever play football having experienced a stellar rise from a young prospect in Lisbon to a global megastar.

Ronaldo started his career in his home country Portugal before sealing a move to Manchester United where he gained prominence that now cements him as a football poster boy.
