Onoriode Ehwarieme knocks out Baracamonte in 1st round to win WBF title

Onoriode Ehwarieme, Nigerian US-based boxer, needed just one minute and 60 seconds to knock out Argentine's Ariel Baracamonte on Saturday, December 28, at GOtv Boxing Night 20 as he picked up the WBF Intercontinental heavyweight title in style.

The Nigerian who previously had 17 knockout victories and one loss in 18 fights, made it 18 knockout wins in 19 bouts, as his vicious blows knocked out Baracamonte in the first round of their 12-round fight which held at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.

Aside from Ehwarieme, one boxer who stole the show at the event was Taiwo “Esepo” Agbaje, the national featherweight champion.

Agbaje won the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy for the best boxer on the night and claimed the cash prize of N1 million after knocking out Olusegun “Embargo” Moses in a national featherweight challenge duel.

The police officer turned boxer showed great boxing skills as he knocked out his opponent in the fifth round to the delight of the capacity crowd.

Also, Rilwan “Real One” Oladosu of Nigeria retained his West African Boxing Union (WABU) title after he secured a unanimous decision victory over Eric Quarm of Ghana in a lightweight title contest.

Oladosu dominated the bout from the beginning to the end, giving his Ghanaian opponent no chance to create an upset.

Another entertaining contest saw Nigeria’s Rilwan “Baby Face” Babatunde defeat Sanitor Agbenyo of Ghana to retain his WABU welterweight title.

Babatunde's firepower was too much for Agbenyo who threw in the towel in the fourth round.

In another action-packed contest, Segun “Success” Olanrewaju secured a surprise victory after he knocked out reigning national champion, Adewale “Masevex” Masebinu, in the third round of a national light heavyweight challenge duel.

The major upset of the night saw Sikiru “Omo Iya Eleja” Shogbesan defeat his more experienced opponent, Ridwan “Scorpion” Oyekola, via a split decision in a national super featherweight challenge duel.

Shogbesan who is also an NYSC corp member showed great strength to take on Oyekola as he inflicted a surprise defeat to the experienced boxer.

Fast-rising boxer Opeyemi “Sense” Adeyemi enhanced his soaring reputation in the local boxing scene after he left his opponent, Ajibola “Jah” Adeniran, dazed on the canvass in the second round of their national super bantamweight challenge contest, while Alaba “Eylbow” Omotola, best boxer at GOtv Boxing NextGen 5, won the battle of debutants as he secured a unanimous decision win over Bolaji “fight to Finish” Abdullahi in a national lightweight challenge contest.

It was a thriller in the all-female contest as Cynthia “Omo Bobby” Ogunsemilore continued her winning streak after securing a unanimous decision victory over Aminat “Smart” Yekini in a national super featherweight challenge duel.

The fans were thrilled to spectacular musical performances on the night from some of Nigeria’s biggest music stars: Zlatan, Mayorkun and Oritsefemi, as well as a lively displays from T Classic, Fuji star, Sule Alao Malaika; and MyFLloyd.
