Wike gives out Rivers lawmakers SUVs 24 hours after passing 2020 budget

A video has shown the exciting moments members of the Rivers House of Assembly received brand new Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) from the governor of the state, Nyesom Wike.

Reports say the SUVs were presented by Wike to the lawmakers 24 hours after the passed they passed the state's 2020 budget of N530.81 billion.

The lawmakers, many of whom could not hide their excitements, thanked the governor for the gesture.

The lawmakers promised to always cooperate with the executive arm of the state government.

On his part, the speaker of the state Assembly, Ikuinyi Ibani, said the gesture was an evidence that the governor does not joke with the welfare of the lawmakers.

Ibani said: “The governor handed to us, keys of official cars that belong to members of the state Assembly.

"This is how it should be and we are very grateful to him for providing such leadership and ensuring that members’ welfare are always given priority."

He promised that the lawmakers would always play meaningful roles to make governance in the state effective.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the gesture to the state lawmakers came at a time Governor Nyesom Wike and his counterpart in Bayelsa, Seriake Dickson, are at loggerheads.

The issue between them recently degenerated with Wike demanding that Dickson should resign from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly betraying and selling out the party.

Dickson had also been quoted as saying: “I want it recorded that Governor Wike is deliberately inciting disunity in Ijaw land because of his ethnic supremacist political agenda which he knows that Bayelsa, particularly Governor Dickson and my agenda will not support. That’s what he is doing.”
