Atiku reacts to Abuja bank robbery, hopes for better security

Former vice president and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, has spoken on the robbery attack that happened in Mpape area in Abuja.

In a tweet, the Atiku praised the timely efforts of security officials in containing the situation, saying he was proud of the way they responded.

He said that it is his hope that the attitude will continue in the new year in offering a better security for the nation.

“I am proud of the proactiveness of the Nigerian Army and Police in foiling the bank robbery in Abuja. It is my hope that this will be the face of a reinvigorated security in the new year,” he said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that the four members of an armed robbery gang that stormed the Abuja bank were arrested while one of them was also confirmed killed.

The spokesperson of the FCT police command, ASP Mariam Yusuf, confirmed that normalcy has been restored in the area just hours after the five-man gang stormed the area.

The bank confirmed the end of the horrible incident in an official statement. The management also assured that customers and staff of the institution were all safe and well.

"We wish to inform everyone that the attempted robbery incident that happened at one of our branches in Abuja has been foiled; customers and staff are unhurt, and the suspects have been apprehended.

"The immediate response by the police and military is very commendable and we truly appreciate them for their doggedness and commitment," the bank said.
