Ayo Adebanjo speaks on need for constitutional amendment

- Ayo Adebanjo, Afenifere chieftain, has said for Nigeria to progress, it needs to change its constitution

- The elder statesman also advocated for state policing as a way to create an efficient security system

- Adebanjo said there already some anarchy in the land going by how the government's disregard for court orders

The leader of Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has said that there can never be any progress in the nation unless the country’s constitution is changed to reflect true federation.

He made this claim during an interview with The Sun, where he also advocated for state policing as a way to ensure better security.

Adebanjo also spoke about how the nation is moving towards an imminent anarchy, saying the court that ought to be the last resort of the common man is being disregarded.

“We are moving towards anarchy, except we want to deceive ourselves. The court that is supposed to be the sanctuary of the common man has been desecrated, and yet the people who should protest keep quiet. We are already in anarchy,” he said.

The elder statesman went ahead to say that the anarchy he speaks of has even taken over the country, emphasizing the need to go back to true federalism where every region is sufficient in itself.

“Anarchy has taken over in this country. We must return the country to true federalism, where the regions should be autonomous, and let everybody be ruled according to the dictate of his place, then, this culture of autocracy and authority over everybody would be stopped,” he said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that It is now illegal for the former governors who are now elected senators or ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to collect pensions as ex-chief executive officers of their respective states.

A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi area of Lagos asked the federal government to recover pensions and allowances received by former and serving senators as ex-governors.
