The Nigerian government has disclosed that it is making efforts to secure the release of Leah Sharibu, the last of the Dapchi schoolgirls in Boko haram captivity.

Leah was abducted alongside other pupils of the Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State, by Boko Haram in February 2018.

While the other students were returned, Leah Sharibu, the only Christian student was held back by her abductors reportedly for not renouncing her Christian faith.

Though her whereabouts remain unknown the Defence Headquarters said a military operation is in place to rescue Leah Sharibu from Boko haram captivity.

Brigadier General Clement Nwachukwu, the spokesman for the Defence Headquarters told a news conference in Abuja that the operation is also meant to secure the freedom of other captives of the terror group.

Meanwhile, the abduction of Leah Sharibu has again drawn the attention of Christians in the state as they demand her release.

The Christians pleaded with the federal government headed by President Muhammadu Buhari to make more efforts in ensuring the release of Leah who has been captivity for close to two years.

Channels Television reports that Reverend Father Philibus Yakubu, who chairs the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Yobe, made the plea during an inter-denominational church service to celebrate Christmas in Damaturu, capital of the state.
