Manchester City have reportedly been given the green light to sign Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez after Lionel Messi kicked against his transfer move to Barcelona.

This season, Lautaro has been impressive for Inter Milan and the 22-year-old Argentine is rated as one of the best rising stars after scoring 13 goals in 21 games.

His rich vein of form this season has caught the attention of Barcelona chiefs who are interested in signing Lautaro as a long term replacement for Luis Suarez.

But according to Spanish media outlet El Desmarque, Barcelona captain Lionel Messi does not want his fellow countryman to be brought to Nou Camp.

Lionel Messi's intervention on Lautaro's signing could now give Manchester City the chance to lure the player to the Etihad stadium.

City boss Pep Guardiola is sniffing around as he considers replacements for Sergio Aguero whi is now 31, and Martinez representatives have offered him to the Citizens.

But Manchester City will still face serious competition from Real Madrid who are said to be also monitoring Lautaro Martinez.
