Some Boko Haram terrorists have been killed in an operation by troops of the Nigerian Military and vigilantes

- According to a source, troops in Biu and their colleagues in Damboa converged to engage the insurgents in a shootout that lasted till the early hours of Christmas day
Forty-eight members of the Boko Haram terrorist group have been killed by soldiers and some vigilantes in Biu, southern area of Borno state.
Premium Times reports that the incident occurred when soldiers and the vigilantes repelled an attack by the terrorists.
An official of the Civilian-JTF, whose personnel also fought alongside the soldiers against the terrorists, said a total of 48 Boko Haram members were killed during the gun battle.
It was gathered that some terrorists had on Tuesday, December 24, arrived at Biu to attack the town after they had been repelled by troops of the Nigerian Army
The plan by the terrorists to attack the town had come after 24-hours after a previous attempt to runover Biu, killing two people and leaving 13 other persons injured.
A source, privy to information on the attack said troops in Biu and their colleagues in Damboa converged to engage the insurgents in a shootout that lasted till the early hours of Christmas day.
A Civilian-JTF operative, Muhammed Liberia said: “The operation lasted till about 4 am when the soldiers and our members finished ransacking the areas for their bodies."
“We were also able to arrest three of the Boko Haram insurgents and they are with the soldiers,” he added.
Reacting to the attack, the chief press secretary to the deputy governor of Borno state, Bulama Talba, said the soldiers repelled the attack.
Talba who was in Biu said: “As I am talking to you now, normal activities are going in Biu town after the soldiers have repelled the planned attack."
“We heard that the soldiers have effectively repelled the intended attack, and people are carrying on with their Christmas celebration,” Talba said.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that troops deployed to Operation Lafiya Dole had overpowered the terrorists in Adamawa state.
The troops were said to have subdued the insurgents in some communities in Madagali council area of the state and lowered their flags.
