The lawmaker representing Kaduna central at the upper legislative chamber, Senator Uba Sani, has sent a powerful message to the influential Nigerians on the occasion of Christmas celebration.
Legit.ng reports that the senator advised those who have financial wherewithal to help and uplift the poor, the weak and the sick in their areas.
He said the celebration of Christmas signifies hope, joy, peace and compassion, adding that the poor and the weak must be assisted no matter how small it might be.
"I wish to felicitate with our dear Christian brothers and sisters on the joyous occasion of Christmas. The birth of Jesus Christ, which is celebrated today, signifies hope, joy, peace and compassion. May the good Lord bless you all and guard and strengthen you throughout the celebrations.
"As we rejoice let us remember the poor, the weak and the sick. We must endeavour to give them a helping hand and put smiles on their faces. That would be in keeping with the virtues and values which Jesus Christ espoused and pursued with vigour throughout his selfless earthly mission. He gave succour to the poor, healed the sick and strengthened the weak. We must therefore be Christ - like in our dealings with our distressed fellow countrymen and women," Senator Sani said.
According to him, Jesus Christ made love for one another the epicenter of his message to humanity, lamenting that love has departed from many Nigerian communities and that conflicts have replaced peaceful coexistence, tolerance and being our brothers and sisters keepers.
He said: "May this Christmas set the stage for building of lasting peace in our communities. I urge us to continue to support our dear leaders especially our president, governors, leadership and members of National and state Assemblies."
Senator Uba Sani emphasised that President Muhammadu Buhari has left no one doubt as to his determination to stabilise the economy, and infuse integrity, accountability and transparency into governance.
He added that the 2020 budget, if vigorously pursued, would bring the much needed relief to the Nigerian poor, adding that the president is pained by the difficult and challenging circumstances of the less privileged in our society and has vowed to lift millions of them out of poverty.
"Our dynamic Kaduna state governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai is gradually but steadily changing the face of our dear state. He needs our sustained support and encouragement. With the massive infrastructural development and empowerment programmes being carried out, Kaduna state will definitely not be the same again.
"On my part, I recommit myself to the growth and development of Kaduna central senatorial zone. Our modest efforts are already bearing fruits. With continued support and cooperation of our dear stakeholders, our zone will become a model of progress and development," he added.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) described the release of activist, Omoyele Sowore and former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, as a Christmas gift to Nigerians.
