- Former NSA Sambo Dasuki is a happy man after his release from DSS custody
- After his release, Dasuki reunited with his family at his residence in Abuja
- Dasuki is accused of using his former office to divert $2.1 billion meant for arms procurement and he has been in detention since 2015
For the first time in four years, Sambo Dasuki has reunited with his family. Dasuki, a former national security adviser during the administration of ex-president, Goodluck Jonathan has been in the custody of the Department of State Services.
The former NSA who was released on Tuesday, December 24, was received by his family and well-wishers at his Asokoro, Abuja, residence in the night of same day.
A video has shown the moment Dasuki walked into his home after four years in detention. There were screams of joy from his family members.
The security outfit first arrested him on December 1, 2015. He is facing charges over his involvement in a $2.1bn arms procurement fraud under the administration of Jonathan.
He was later arraigned in court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). On December 29, 2015, he was released from DSS custody after perfecting his bail granted by the court. However, he was immediately re-arrested.
The DSS finally let Dasuki go on Tuesday following the order from the attorney-general of the federation and justice minister, Abubakar Malami, that he and the convener of #RevolutionNow protest, Omoyele Sowore, should be released.
According to Malami, the decision to release them was in compliance with the bail granted them by the court.
Sowore, who was released alongside Dasuki, was escorted out of the DSS headquarters by Abubakar Marshal, a lawyer from the chambers of Mr Femi Falana.
As he departed from the DSS office, the activist chanted ‘revolution now and forever.’
