- Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems to have lost focus in winning silverware for Man United this campaign

- The Norwegian-born tactician is already planning for the 2020-21 league season after Watford's defeat

- United are 24 points behind Liverpool who are topping the Premier League table at mid-season

Manchester United fans have launched an attack on their club manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after 'writing off' this season.

The Norwegian-born tactician reveals that he is already looking towards next season - suggesting that nothing like silverware can come out of this season.

Relegation-threatened Watford ended Red Devils seven-games unbeaten run in Sunday's 2-0 victory at the Vicarage Road.

After the defeat, Solskjaer said he was already focusing on the 2020-21 season and the fans were angry for the statement.

United boss said: "We're halfway through this season and we knew this season was going to be a season of some ups and downs.

"This season will be used to find a team and a squad for next season, but hopefully we can speed this process up by getting more results.

"I expect us to be more consistent, definitely more experienced and learning from these setbacks. "But at the moment we're a little bit further behind than what I was hoping for."

The Norwegian added: "We want to be a team that can go and dominate teams and break teams down.

"It's taken Liverpool a few years to get to that state and we need to just keep on building because that's what we want to get to.

"We're good at counter-attacking. We've got pace and fast players. We should always keep that because that's in our tradition. "Now we need to be better at breaking lower blocks.

"That's where this team is going to learn and grow and I'm sure we'll see an improvement over this season and hopefully for next year."

Man United fans did not take Solskjaer's statement likely, one said: "Sorry. But if Moyes, LVG or Jose said this they'd be out. "Since when does United write off seasons?"

Another wrote: "So Solskjaer has just publicly written off this season and said it's about finding a team for next season.

"It's Christmas FFS! Stunning. Absolutely stunning the excuses coming out of that club."

A third said: "Solskjaer really said that this season this will used for next season. Effectively written the season off already. Smh. I’m done!!!"

Another even called the club a "lost cause".

With their current position, United's chances of qualifying for Champions League next season is doubtful.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Paul Pogba is set for a return to Serie A should Juventus agree to table a bid of £52 million-plus ex-Liverpool ace Emre Can for the Manchester United ace during January market.

The want-away star has been out of action for United since September due to injury, though made a cameo appearance in Red Devils' 2-0 defeat to relegation-threatened side Watford.

The Frenchman was recently ruled out of potential purchase by Real Madrid, setting a huge stumbling block as he is keen on forcing his ways out of Old Trafford.
