Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2019 presidential election has condemned the attack on activist, Deji Adeyanju, by suspected miscreants on Monday, December 23.

Adeyanju was attacked when some persons disrupted a peaceful protest organised by a coalition of civil society groups over the continued detention of journalist Omoyele Sowore.

Atiku in a tweet on Monday, December 23, urged the government to protect persons who hold contrary views on any issues. He demanded that those behind the attack on Adeyanju be brought to book.

“Like I said before, without rule of law, there can be no rule at all. Govt must be seen to be working to protect those who hold contrary views. As such, perpetrators of the brutality against the activist, Deji Adeyanju must be brought to book. Their act stands condemned. –AA,” he tweeted.

Legit.ng had reported that there was confusion in the morning of Monday, December 23, following a clash between protesters who want activist Omoyele Sowore released and some alleged miscreants.

The Nigerian Tribune reports that the civil society groups had engaged in a peaceful protest in Abuja under the aegis of the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) before the clash.

According to the report, the members of the organisation were gathered at the front of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Maitama, with a letter to its chairman.
