Nigerians react as Garba Shehu mocks Femi Falana

- Nigerians have criticised Garba Shehu over his press statement on Femi Falana

- Shehu had recently described the renowned activist as an unsuccessful governorship candidate

- The presidential aide was cautioned and reminded of those who had occupied his position before him

Nigerians have criticised Mallam Garba Shehu for describing Femi Falana (SAN) as an unsuccessful opposition governorship candidate.

Shehu, who is a presidential aide to Muhammadu Buhari, had on Monday, December 23, criticised the human rights activists for allegedly claiming that the president wants a third time in office.

But in his reaction, Dayo Williams, a journalist and social commentator said Shehu has always played fourth fiddle to a politician as a spokesman for the better part of his adult life and as a result of this does not know what it takes to participate in an election.

"Falana once ran as the gubernatorial candidate of the National Conscience Party (NCP) in Ekiti State back then when PDP was the Lord of the Manor, rigging every election that was rigg-able

"Somewhere as at the time Falana was a governorship candidate Mallam Shehu was in the fortress of Aso Rock then as a spokesperson to Vice President Atiku Abubakar rationalizing all the atrocities meted out on Nigerians by the PDP behemoth until Obasanjo happened on his erstwhile principal, and the rest, as they say, is now history.

"Garba Shehu has always played fourth fiddle to a politician as a spokesman for the better part of his adult life, at least, in the last twenty years.

"Even in Aso Rock, a Buhari alleged recently that he is beholden to some faceless power mongers to the detriment of the official duties he was appointed to perform. Only a Janus-faced servant does that; serving two masters at the same time.

"Does he know what it takes to participate in an election as a candidate in Nigeria?

"If he thinks it is easy, he can go contest on the platform of YPP in Kano State for his Constituency in the State House of Assembly; the rude awakening his defeat will trigger will be like a tremor to him," he wrote on Facebook.

On his part, Richard Akinola urged Shehu to remember those that have occupied the position before him.

"My friend Garba, as a presidential spokesman, it's not everything you respond to. It belittles your office, just like FFK did when he was the SSA public affairs to OBJ. That dude made more enemies for his principal by being the attack dog of the government.

"But you are not FFK. You have a better pedigree as a spokesperson. So, l expect you to rise above similar pettiness that characterised the era of FFK at the Villa. Responding to every critical comment is not really cool," he said.

For Nasiru Suleiman, the statement by Shehu on Falana is "very pedestrian and a petty press statement from the presidency".

Also, Ibrahim Ishaku Garba Shehu, while reacting to Shehu wrote: "Your feeble attempt to ridicule Falana by addressing him as "formally unsuccessful candidate for governor of Ekiti state" is laughable."

However, Al-hussayn Musa wrote in defence of Garba Shehu. He wrote: "I am wondering on how some people are highly concerned over a third term issue relating it to President Buhari.

"It's right time for them to be reminded, re-alerted that their false assumption is always false and fruitless!
