- Adesina describes Buhari as a democrat who respects the constitution, noting that any activity aimed at altering the term limit will not succeed and never have his backing
The presidency has again described as false the claims by some Nigerians that President Muhammadu Buhari is seeking to contest for a third term in office.
Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, in a statement on Monday, December 23, said human rights activist, Femi Falana, had joined those making the claim that the president is seeking a third term.
He said the internet-based gossip about a possible third term had been given credence by so-called groups staging street demonstrations and asking the president to do a third term.
But the presidential aide reiterated that President Buhari, under no circumstances, was planning to amend the constitution to extend the two-term limits on holding office as president.
Adesina described Buhari as a democrat who respects the constitution and that any activity aimed at altering the term limit will not succeed and never have his backing.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to the purported case instituted by one of its members, Charles Enya, seeking an amendment of the constitution to allow President Muhammadu Buhari run for a third term in office.

In a statement issued on Thursday, November 28, in Abuja, by its national publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the party said it read with dismay in the media about a purported legal action taken Enya seeking an amendment of the constitution.
