- Abiodun Akinlade, a defeated candidate in the governorship election in Ogun, has announced he is returning to the All Progressives Congress (APC)

- Akinlade's decision came days after he lost against Dapo Abiodun at the Supreme Court

- The politician contested the election on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and lost

Days after losing his case at the Supreme Court, Abiodun Akinlade, defeated governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ogun state returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, December 23.

Akinlade made the announcement, adding that he was coming back to the ruling party in the state with all his followers.

In the heat of the electioneering, Akinlade had defected to the APM from where he contested against Dapo Abiodun, who was the candidate thrown up from the APC's primary election held in the state.

The election was won by Abiodun and Akinlade headed for the tribunal where he lost. Akinlade appealed the tribunal's judgement.

Unfortunately, he lost again as the Court of Appeal upheld the election of Dapo Abiodun as the duly elected governor of the state in a ruling delivered on Monday, November 11.

The appeal court, sitting in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, held that the petition of Akinlade lacked merit.

The court consequently struck out the petition and declared Abiodun the rightful winner of the Saturday, March 9, 2019 governorship election in Ogun state.

The lead judgment was delivered by Justice Muhammed Ambi-Usi Danjuma who said the 10 grounds filed by APM candidate to challenge Abiodun's victory had no merit.

On Wednesday, December 18, the Supreme Court declared Abiodun the authentic winner of the governorship election in Ogun state.

The apex court threw away the suit filed against Governor Abiodun's victory by Adekunle Akinlade, the governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
