Dickson tells Wike to stop treating Bayelsa state like annex of Rivers

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state has told the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, to stop belittling and intimidating Bayelsa state.

Dickson on Sunday, December 22, accused WIke of treating Bayelsa as an annexe of Rivers state. The Bayelsa state governor said he was issuing the statement following childishness comments from Wike.

“Let me put it on record, this is the first time I will formally respond to Wike’s childishness in this formal way. I have always ignored with pain and regret all the previous vituperations and his attempt to belittle and intimidate this state and our leadership," Dickson said.

The Bayelsa state governor made the statement when reacting to Wike’s comments about his (Dickson) visit to a traditional leader in Rivers, the Amanyanabo of Kalabari kingdom, Theophilus Princewill.

Wike, speaking recently about the visit which took place in April 2019, said Dickson's visit was a breach of protocol since the Bayelsa governor did not notify the appropriate authorities.

But Dickson slammed Wike for his comments, stating that he does not need the governor's permission to visit traditional rulers and elders in Port Harcourt or any part of Rivers state.

Meanwhile, just weeks to the end of Governor Seriake Dickson's tenure in office, alleged burglars have raided the Bayelsa Government House and disappeared with the sum of N3.5 million.

The incident was confirmed by the deputy chief of staff to the governor, Ebizi Ndiomu-Brown, whose office was burgled.

The deputy chief of staff, who is on an official assignment away from Bayelsa, said she was not suspecting anybody in particular, but that the police was already investigating the case.
