- Governor Obaseki has been accused of plans to destroy the APC in Edo state
- The allegation was raised by factional APC leaders in the state
- They accused the governor of providing a meeting ground for PDP at the Government House in Benin
Governor Godwin Obaseki has been accused of working hard to destroy the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo state.
The allegation was made by a faction of the party loyal to the national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.
The faction said the governor has tactically left the party, The Nation reports.
Going further, the faction urged President Muhammadu Buhari to call Obaseki to order before he creates anarchy in the state.
Specifically, they accused the governor of providing a meeting ground for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the government house in Benin.
Factional chairman Col. David Imuse (retd.) and secretary Lawrence Okah, made the allegation in a statement in Abuja. They also added that Obaseki rejected all peace moves.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Oshiomhole gave reasons why he would not allow Obaseki to create a new political structure in Edo state.
He disclosed this at a rally organised to welcome an erstwhile chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Pastor Ize Iyamu into the APC in Edo state.
Oshiomhole said Obaseki’s move to create an alternative power bloc in Edo state by deliberately stripping existing party leaders of their enormous influence in the APC Edo state chapter was the genesis of the cold war between him and the Edo state governor.
Going further, he said: ”A political party is like a forest, in that forest you have many animals. The politician is the guy who goes into this forest, knowing fully well that all the dangerous animals are there but he is going for the antelope or the grass cutter which he wants to use to feed his family. He goes there get his antelope or grass cutter home and feast without being crashed."
