- Agada, who is the National Assembly's director of information, said the assembly complex has been dilapidated for many years

- The president of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, is expected to inaugurate a team that will oversee the project in 2020

As Nigerians condemn and reject the plan to spend N37 billion to renovate the National Assembly, the director of information of the legislative body, Rawlings Agada, has said the huge approved amount may still not be enough.

Vanguard reports that Agada said the assembly complex has been dilapidated for many years, stressing that there is a lot of renovation works to be done.

He added that there are fears that things might get out of hand if the renovation is not done.

The National Assembly staff said the renovation project was approved following concerns raised by the management.

Recall that Legit.ng reported of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claiming that the plan by the National Assembly to spend N37 billion for the renovation of its complex was final confirmation of the corruption level in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PDP added that the budget for the renovation of the National Assembly complex is simply an "unpardonable rip-off plot and the last straw of the brazen corruption that pervades the current administration."

The opposition party said the budget is bloated and cannot be defended, especially knowing that the complex was constructed with N7 billion.
