A former federal lawmaker, Danlami Kurfi, has congratulated the governor of Katsina state, Bello Masari on his victory at the Supreme Court.

Kurfi described the Supreme Court judgment affirming the victory of Masari at the 2019 general election as another landmark in the country’s politics.

The former lawmaker who represented Dutsinma/Kurfi federal constituency at the eighth National Assembly said the judgment had not only consolidated the nation’s democracy but also strengthened the citizens’ belief in the judicial and electoral process.

He said the APC’s victory at the apex court affirmed the will of a majority of the people of Katsina and Nigerians at large.

The former lawmaker also said that the judgment averted the danger of returning the country to the period of plague, which, the former parliamentarian said, defined the PDP’s 16 years of misrule in Nigeria.

Kurfi said: "The judgment is a great relief for all of us in Katsina state after a period of fierce contest and bickering that marred the last general elections."

"The Supreme Court has not only upheld the choice of a greater number of Nigerians who chose APC and the Alhaji Bello Masari at the polls, but it has also affirmed our belief in the judiciary as impartial arbiter whose pronouncements have strengthened our democracy in a great leap," the lawmaker added.

He also said that Katsina cannot afford to; "go back to the period of the plague that characterised the PDP’s 16 years of misrule that pushed our state to the odious edge."

“I rejoice most sincerely with Governor Masari, APC state leaders and all Nigerians on this deserving and worthwhile victory," Kurfi said.
