Nigeria's Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) on Thursday, December 19, said he could not confirm reports that his predecessor had returned to Nigerian from Dubai and was arrested on the spot.
Daily Trust reports that Abubakar Malami while speaking during a media parley in his office said he was yet to be officially briefed on Mohammed Adoke's matter.
He also said that reacting to the matter could be subjudice as it was inappropriate for him to do such.
However, the counsel to the former PGF, Mike Ozehkome, said that Adoke was on his way to Nigeria after he was released by the police in Dubai.
Ozekhome said Adoke’s release followed an undertaking that the former AGF will return voluntarily to the country.
The lawyer also said that his client already bought his flight ticket to Nigeria on Monday and is expected in the country by Thursday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the former AGF who is facing charges bordering on abuse of power while in office and money laundering arrived in Nigeria on Thursday, December 19.
It was gathered that Adoke’s aircraft touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at about 3:40 pm and he was whisked away from the foot of the aircraft by security operatives and taken to the office of Interpol in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
