The Political unfoldings in the United States have taken an exciting and historic dimension as the House of Representatives led by the Democrats successfully impeached President Donald Trump.

President Trump is the third president to be impeached in US history. However, his impeachment does not immediately lead to removal from office.

The Senate has to hold a trial on the impeachment and consequently decide whether or not to remove him from his position. The Democrats need a two-third majority to get Trump removed from office.

Legit.ng earlier reported that President Trump was impeached based on two articles: abuse of office and obstruction of Congress.

The lawmakers voted 230-197 in favour of removing Trump on the first article of impeachment, abuse of power.

On the second article, which is obstruction of congress, the federal lawmakers voted 229 to 198 for Trump to be impeached.
