Makinde: Oyo APC congratulates governor over Supreme Court victory

- The APC state chapter of the APC sends congratulatory message to Governor Seyi Makinde over the Supreme Court judgment that affirmed his victory

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state has congratulated Governor Seyi Makinde over the Supreme Court judgment that affirmed his victory.

Vanguard reports that the spokesperson of the party Olatunde Azeez, in a congratulatory message on behalf of the party asked the governor to use the validation of his mandate to focus on governance in the state.

On behalf of all APC in Oyo State, we congratulate His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde for the court affirmation of his electoral victory,” the party said.

“We want to challenge him to utilise the opportunity of the validation of his mandate to focus on governance and remove himself from pettiness because as the governor of the state, he is the governor of all Oyo State indigenes, not just a section of the state.

Azeez said the Oyo APC having exhausted the legal means of resolving the election dispute, urged everyone in the state to continue to be law-abiding.

The party advised Makinde to allow the court that affirmed his election to also decide on the tier of governance in the state by not allowing impunity to reign.

The APC advised the governor to desist from threatening the duly and legitimately elected local government’s chairmen and councilors, noting that President Muhammadu Buhari did not threaten his legitimacy.

Legit.ng had reported that the Supreme Court on Wednesday, December 18, delivered judgement in the governorship election in Oyo state declaring Seyi Makinde as the actual winner of the exercise held on March 9.

The news reportedly caused jubilation in Ibadan and other parts of the state, it was learned. With the judgment, the election battle between Makinde of the PDP and Adebayo Adelabu of the APC has been laid to rest.

Legit.ng reported that the ruling was granted by Justice Ukaego Mary Peter-Odili, who presided over the ruling at the Supreme Court in Abuja.

In another report, the election victories of Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna and his counterpart in Nasarawa, Abdullahi Sule as governors of their respective states were on Wednesday, December 18, upheld by the Supreme Court.

The duo had contested and won the governorship elections held on Saturday, March 9, on the platform of the APC.

In the case of the Nasarawa governorship election, the apex court threw out the appeal filed by the candidate of the PDP, David Ombugadu.
