Argentine legend Diego Maradona has urged Boca Juniors to name Mauricio Pochettino their next manager.

The 47-year-old was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur lat month - bringing his five-year reign at the club to an abrupt end.

Pochettino guided Spurs to their very first Champions League final last season but lost to Liverpool in Madrid on June 1.

About six months down the lane, results did not favour him and Jose Mourinho was hired in his place by the club chief Daniel Levy.

SunSport reports that the manager has been linked with top European clubs including Arsenal, Manchester United and Real Madrid.

However, since Maradona is not ready to take charge of Boca Juniors, he has asked the club to appoint his countryman instead.

Speaking to Ole, he said: "I will not go to Boca because I repeat that I do not agree with those who will manage the club.

"The president [Jorge Amor Ameal] was already there and it was a disaster. "He surrounded himself with [vice-president Mario Pergolini] who believes that he can handle the club.

"And Roman... a club is not run within the locker room. "It's much harder than stopping the ball, giving a pass or kicking a free-kick.

"Boca have to take a technician to play and feel what Boca is. "It's not easy to sit in that chair. The best of all is Maradona.

"But now I will not go, there at some point it happens. But I would like Mauricio Pochettino. "You have to call him and convince him to come to lead the biggest team in the world."

Legit.ng earlier reported that Barcelona have joined Bayern Munich and Manchester United in the race to hire Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino was recently sacked at Premier League side Tottenham after five years, and he has been replaced with Jose Mourinho.

Tottenham chiefs decided to fire Mauricio Pochettino following the club's unimpressive performance this season where they currently occupy 14th position on the standings.
