President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, December 17, said that he would not allow anyone to use his name to campaign for votes so as to compromise the 2023 presidential election.

The president said this when he was paid a visit by Secretary to Federal Government (SGF) Boss Mustapha alongside his aides to celebrate the Nigerian leader's 77 birthday.

He promised Nigerians that he will give them free and fair general elections in 2023, The Nation reports.

The president said that whoever intends to succeed him must work hard and merit the victory that will lead him or her to the enviable office.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Nigerians hailed President Buhari on the occasion of his 77th birthday.

To celebrate the president, many Nigerians took to social media to honour him. Presidential spokesman Garba Shehu while hailing the president on Twitter, wished him long life and prosperity. He also prayed for more years of service to the nation.

Meanwhile, on Facebook, Olabode Ajayi greeted the president on the occasion of his 77th birthday.

He wrote: "Please tell Baba that I am with him and wishing him Happy 77th birthday. May his Birthday be the start of an amazing year. Age with uncommon grace and increase in favour. Happy Birthday Mr Integrity. Happy Birthday Baba."
