Barcelona talisman, Lionel Messi, has been officially crowned La Liga's best player for 2018-19 season, clinching his seventh Di Stéfano gong and sixth Pichichi trophy in the process.

The Argentine failed to win Champions League last season but was on his incredibly stellar form for the Catalans as he guided Ernesto Valverde's men to another domestic win.

Messi takes more steps above his arch-rival and former Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, who won the awards four times, to clinch the coveted price third time in a row at Marca's awards ceremony in Spain.

The 32-year-old took the Pichichi trophy for being the league's top goal scorer, and clinched the Di Stéfano Trophy for being La Liga's best player, becoming the only player to take the awards for highest number of times in the process.

Meanwhile, the Argentine forward had earlier beaten Ronaldo and Liverpool's centre-back Vigil van Dijk to FIFA’s The Best award in September.

He also clinched Ballon d’Or award in December for the record of sixth time, breaking the tie between him and the Portuguese star.
