Lagos residents scamper for safety as rival cult groups clash in Surulere

- There was a commotion in Surulere area of Lagos state on Monday, December 16

- Some rival cult groups engaged one another in the area

- Normalcy was later restored to the area by the officers of RRS

Pandemonium ensued on Monday, December 16, in Pako and Surulere areas of Lagos state over a reported clash among two rival cult groups.

Legit.ng reports that residents in the areas scampered for safety when they heard a cascade of gunshots.

A Twitter user, Akeem Ishola, said in a tweet that Aguda Surulere was on fire right, adding that shops were locked while valuable items were being vandalized.

He said the fight broke out among rival area boys, saying that the police were watching helplessly.

According to him, the fight has been on for couple of days.

Officers of the Rapid Respond Squad (RRS) and other police officers from divisions around later bombarded the ground to restore normalcy around Pako/Aguda where a fight broke out between rival groups.

According to the RRS, arrests have been made and police patrol in the area was still in progress.

The police public relations officer in Lagos state, Elkanah Bala, confirmed that a team of police officers had been sent to the scene.

“The operation is ongoing. We have police officers there to take care of the situation and tell us what actually happened. I was initially told it was a clash between some cults, but I don’t have the details yet," he was quoted to have said this.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the commissioner of police in Kogi, Hakeem Busari, confirmed the killing of a student of Kogi state polytechnic, Lokoja, who was suspected to be a top member of a cult group.
