Arms dealing: Police arrest retired army general in Abia state

Officials of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have arrested a retired general of the country's army in Abia state, a commissioner of the law enforcement agency, Ene Okon, has said.

Okon, who heads the police command in Abia, made the announcement on Monday, December 16, in Umuahia, the capital of Abia state.

According to the police commissioner, the retired military officer was arrested for arms dealing.

Okon spoke during the parade of suspects at the state's police command headquarters.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen TY Buratai, had approved the new postings and appointments of some senior officers in the Army to the new ranks.

Colonel Sagir Musa, the acting director of Army public relations, made this known in a statement made available on Monday, December 16, adding that all the appointments take immediate effect.

With the new postings, Maj Gen EO Ogunkale from Command Army Record Lokoja has been redeployed to Defence Headquarters as Chief of Defence Standards and Evaluation.

Meanwhile, earlier on Tuesday, December 3, President Muhammadu Buhari, urged all troops of the Nigerian Army to continue to respect the rule of law and fundamental human rights of all citizens across the country.

Buhari, while at the annual Chief of Army Staff Conference in Kaduna state, urged the soldiers to keep to the rules of engagement and international code of conduct at all times.

President Buhari, a retired army general, also commended the Nigerian Army for its efforts in ensuring that the country is kept safe from all forms of terrorism and attacks.
