Emire of Bichi sacks five kingmakers over alleged disloyalty

The controversy in the Kano emirate degenerated on Sunday, December 15, when the emir of Bichi, Aminu Bayero, sacked five kingmakers in the Bichi emirate council over alleged disloyalty to the new emirate created by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
Premium Times reports that among those sacked is the district head of Dambatta, Muktar Adnan who is the longest-serving kingmaker in Kano and reportedly turbaned late Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, in 1963. The emir of Bichi, Aminu Bayero, is a son to late emir Bayero.

The other four district heads dismissed by the Bichi emirate are those of Tsanyawa, Dawakin Tofa, Minjibir and Bichi.
Governor Umar Ganduje of Kano state created Bichi as one of the four new emirates to bring the total number of first-class emirs in Kano state to five.
The emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, was the only first-class emir in the state before the creation of the new emirates and appointments of emirs by the Kano state governor.
The newspaper stated that two district heads in Karate, another of the new emirates, were also dismissed the same day the Bichi emirate council sacked of five of its district heads.

Meanwhile, the Kano state emirate council on Monday, December 9, denied receiving any letter from the Kano state government over the recent appointment of Emir Muhammad Sanusi II as chairman of the council of chiefs by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
Daily Trust reports that the Kano Emirate Council said it only knew about the emir's appointment online and on social media on Monday, December 9.
A source within the council said its leadership is yet to be served with the appointment letter officially.
In another report, less than 24-hours after the Kano state House of Assembly passed the Kano Emirates Bill 2019, the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has signed the bill into law.
The bill which was sent to the governor by the lawmakers of the Kano State House of Assembly is for the creation of four more emirates in the state.
Signing the bill into law at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, Ganduje the passage of the new law was as a result of an observation that the last law was challenged in the court of law as it was sponsored by private individuals, and not from the state executive.
