26-year-old Joana Kolo appointed as Kwara youth and sports commissioner

Joana Nnazua Kolo, 26, has been appointed by the governor of Kwara state, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, as the commissioner for youth and sports development in the state.

BBC Pidgin reports that Kolo graduated from Kwara State University in 2018 where she studied Library Science of Kwara State University.

She completed her National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) programme in October 2019.

Legit.ng gathers that her name had been forwarded in September as a commissioner-nominee to the Kwara state House of Assembly for confirmation.

A thread of tweets via her handle, @joanaNkolo on Friday, December 13, indicated that she has been inaugurated as a commissioner in the state.

"Earlier today, I was inaugurated as the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development by His Excellency, @RealAARahman," she tweeted.

The new commissioner pledged to carry out her duties diligently just as she thanked the Kwara state governor for finding her worthy to occupy the crucial political office.

“I return all glory and adoration to Almighty God, I pray for His guidance in actualising the Kwara of our dream.

“I also want to express my gratitude to our indefatigable governor for the confidence he reposed in me to serve as one of his cabinet members.

“I promise to discharge my duty diligently and not to let our youth folks down," she tweeted.

With her inauguration as a commissioner, BBC Pidgin notes that Kolo has emerged the youngest commissioner in Nigeria's history, beating the earlier record set by the 27-year-old Oluwaseun Fakorede who is Oyo state's commissioner for youths and sports.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Governor Seyi Makinde nominated Fakorede as one of the three commissioner nominees for screening.

The governor sent the name of the OAU graduate alongside two other names, Alhaja Faosat Joke Sunni from Iseyin local government and Professor Raphael Afonja from Ogbomoso North local government, to the state House of Assembly for screening.
