EFCC arrests 29 suspected internet fraudsters in Imo state

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday, December 13, disclosed that it has arrested 29 suspected internet fraudsters, popularly known as Yahoo Yahoo Boys in Imo state.

The anti-graft agency stated that the suspected fraudsters were arrested in three different locations in Owerri, the Imo state capital.

The commission said the suspects, who are believed to have used different pseudo names to defraud their unsuspecting victims, were arrested following intelligence and three days surveillance on their hideouts in Bishops Courts’ Malo Lodge, Umuagu Mbieri and King David’s Suite in Owerri.

The EFCC listed some items recovered from the suspected to include: Lexus RX 350, 2013 model, Lexus RX 330, 2009 model, Lexus ES 300, 2002 model, Toyota Corolla Sport and Toyota Camry. Other items include 15 laptops, phones and computer hard-drives.

Meanwhile, a member of the House of Representatives, Shehu Koko Mohammed, has been declared wanted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for failure to appear before it in an ongoing investigation against him.

PM News reports that the commission's director of public enlightenment, Rasheedat Okoduwa, on behalf of the chairman, in a statement issued on Thursday, December 12, said that Mohammed was declared wanted for refusing to appear before the commission.

In another news report, a high court in Adamawa has ordered the inspector-general of police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, to arrest Diezani Alison-Madueke, a former minister of petroleum resources, for allegedly giving a bribe of N362 million to two INEC officials during the 2015 presidential election.

The Cable reports that judge, Nathan Musa, issued the arrest order on Thursday, December 12, when he sentenced the officials who received the bribe from Diezani to jail terms.
